Melissa Lawson
Melissa comes to Humboldt County via Miami, Chicago and Los Angeles. A devotee of ensemble physical theatre, she was a member of New World Rep in Miami, a founding member of Akropolis Acting Company also in Miami, and a member of Dolphinback Theatre in Chicago. She voices radio and television commercials, most notably for Chevy Malibu and OnStar and teaches voice privately combining Fitzmaurice, Feldenkrais and Yoga.
In Chicago she worked for Northlight Theatre, Bailiwick Repertory, Gaia Theatre and Dolphinback Theatre among others. Favorite roles include Masha in Three Sisters at Chekhov’s House on the Black Sea; Cherie in Bus Stop; Karin in Cries and Whispers; Nastya in The Mandate and The Mare/Elayne in The Balcony; and various roles in Chicago’s Girl Theater.
Locally she has worked in the development original play development and community-engaged theater making. Her performances with Sanctuary Stage include: Love is a Drug, A Commedia Christmas, Shades of Grey, and The Duelist. Melissa has a BFA in Theatre from New World School of the Arts and is a member of SAG. Melissa brings an expertise in dance and movement including: tap, ballroom, jazz, Laban, Feldenkrais and Yoga.
